Proposal for the Rollout of FL.
The Technical Working Group has come up with final draft proposals for composite timetables for ECD 2 & 3 and Grade 1 for the national rollout of the Foundational Learning curriculum. Based on the proposed calendar that guided the calculation of instructional hours for each term and the entire academic year, there are 167 instructional days and 681 hours of instruction in the academic calendar. Of these, 49 days will have been exhausted before the arrival of the Foundational Learning materials. This means there will be 118 days left to implement the 150 lessons of the FL curriculum for the 2026/2027 academic year.
These estimates assume that schools will open on 14th September 2026. Should there be any delay in the opening date, it would only affect the total number of instructional days and the coverage of subjects to be taught before the arrival of the FL subjects. It is not expected to affect the FL implementation plan.
To make up for the lost time—not lost instructional hours, but the late implementation of the FL materials—the draft timetables will have 'pre-arrival' and 'post-arrival' phases.
Note: ECD 2 and 3 will maintain their current daily routine with just an insertion of 4 Religious Education which replaced supported writing – will cover 5 lessons per week. Subsequently, when the FL materials arrived, Religious Education will drop to 3 periods per week. Below is the ECD daily routine from September to November, 2026.
