Standards and Quality Assurance Directorate SQAD

The Standards and Quality Assurance Directorate (SQAD) shall be responsible for ensuring compliance with national education policies, standards, legislation, and regulatory frameworks across all education institutions operating in The Gambia. The Directorate shall provide oversight and quality assurance services to promote continuous improvement in the delivery of education at all levels, including Early Childhood Development (ECD), basic education, secondary education, and Madrassa schools.

The Directorate shall maintain its core responsibility for monitoring, supervision, and evaluation of educational standards and performance throughout the school system. This shall include the assessment of teaching and learning quality, learner achievement outcomes, teacher effectiveness and performance, school leadership and management practices, as well as the functionality and participation of Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) and School Management Committees (SMCs).

In addition, SQAD shall promote the adoption and effective use of appropriate technologies and innovative practices to enhance teaching quality, learner engagement, school management, and overall educational performance. The Directorate shall also support evidence-based decision-making through regular inspections, quality assurance reviews, performance monitoring, and the provision of recommendations aimed at strengthening educational outcomes and institutional accountability across the sector.
